PEX-a Pipe for Underfloor Heating Systems

Top Quality Pipe

Evenheat now supplies the 'PEX-a' type of cross-linked polyethylene pipe with integral oxygen barrier in its Comfort Zone systems. This type of pipe is more flexible than PEX-b and is becoming the preferred choice of many installers. This top quality EU manufactured pipe is highly durable and backed with consequential damage insurance cover for the first 15 years. Industry service life predictions for PEX pipe fall in the range 50 to 200 years.

Higher Performance Pipe

Cross-Linked polyethylene undergoes a process in which additional unions between the polyethylene molecule chains are formed. This yields a material with much higher resistance to heat and pressure than ordinary polyethylene, making it especially suitable for the manufacture of hot water pipe. It is the way in which the cross-linking is achieved that differentiates the new Evenheat supplied PEX-a pipe from older generations of this material. The original PEX-a technology yielded higher flexibility than PEX-b, but at the price of a lower quality surface finish and slower, more expensive production. Now, the new 'infra-red cross-linking' technology developed for PEX-a production achieves the flexibility, but with a smoother surface finish and higher production speeds, enabling Evenheat to supply PEX-a without any price premium over PEX-b.

The integral oxygen barrier is to help minimise corrosion in any steel parts that are connected to the system, in the boiler for example. With lower levels of oxygen dissolved in the water, the possibility of corrosion is reduced.
