A thermostatic three port mixing valve is used to regulate the temperature of the water fed to underfloor heating loops when the associated boiler has an output temperature greater than that required by the underfloor heating system. This will normally be the case when using a conventional boiler. Cooler water from the floor loop return is combined with the hot water to mix it down to the right temperature. The valve operates on the melting wax principle and has an adjustable pre-set temperature.
Evenheat supplies three port mixing valves to suit 22mm and 28mm pipe sizes.
Under the top cap of the valve assembly is the temperature adjustment knob. The markings correspond with approx. 5° temperature increments. The flow temperature for the underfloor heating will need to be set by adjusting this control as specified in Evenheat's system design drawings.
Ground-source and air-source heat pumps operate at their greatest efficiency when delivering water at relatively low flow temperatures. This makes underfloor heating the ideal partner for these types of energy saving technology. At these low flow temperatures, there is no need for a three port mixing valve.
